Uniqueplaces to say ‘i do ’ in the capital...

Jakarta has numerous choices of halls for wedding venues, as weddings in the capital are more of a festival than a private party for the family. Huge ballrooms at five-star hotels or even convention centers have become the bare minimum for city couples. However, that doesn’t mean the capital does not have unique and quirky spaces to hold a couple’s once-in-a-lifetime event. Here are a few of Jakarta’s trending non-ballroom wedding venues.

    Colonial Style
What was once the residence of Governor General Reinier de Klerk of the Dutch East India Company, built in the 18th century, Gedung Arsip Nasional—or the National Archive Building—has become the place to go for a heritagethemed wedding among Jakartans. Featuring beautiful colonial structures with a rare expansive green space, it is no wonder that this venue is so popular and has at times a two-year waiting list.

This venue can host over 1,000 guests when using both its large indoor and outdoor spaces. Many couples who have chosen this venue opt for the alfresco area, which is its main draw especially with the flat greenery. The indoor area, housed within the main building, boasts nine big interconnecting rooms with high ceilings and beautiful original colonial style decorations. There are four additional smaller rooms in the outdoors that can be used as extra storage or waiting spaces.

Gedung Arsip Nasional also often collaborates with vendors like the popular Alfabet Catering Service, and has a large parking space with additional rentable parking spots located at the next building. Wedding packages start at Rp. 98 million for 500 guests, which includes the venue, a buffet spread for 500 guests, basic wedding decorations with 50 chairs, an MC and a band for entertainment. Gedung Arsip Nasional is one of the few partners of Indonesia’s main electricity company PLN, therefore power outages are very much close to impossible – and that’s pretty crucial.

    Modern Touches
Situated in Jakarta’s prominent suburb of BSD, The Chakra Venue has become a popular choice amongst the city’s young couples. Boasting large grounds dotted with wonderful modern structures, this venue offers a lot of versatility for a matrimonial union. From a function hall to a lounge, to a tea room, and on to a beautiful white chapel surrounded by the calm waters of the lake and lush greenery, The Chakra Venue can easily be transformed into anything that the bride and groom want for their wedding day.

The Chakra Venue also has a great balance of outdoors and indoors, making it an awesome spot for either day or evening weddings. Its function hall has panoramic glass walls that seamlessly blends the natural surroundings with the interior and provides enough space and day light for a standing party of 1,500. A personal recommendation is to make use of the outdoor space to make the wedding even more memorable.

This popular wedding spot also offers three wedding packages. The lowest is priced at Rp. 120 million, which includes the use of the function hall for four hours, a buffet menu of five main dishes for 200 people, wedding decorations, an MC and entertainment, and an electric supply of up to 5,000 watts. Though it may seem rather pricey, this package actually comes with the additional benefi ts of a complimentary 100 portions of entrees and a whole barbecued lamb, family buffet for 30 people, and pre-event routines like food tasting on selected buffet menu items for 10 people, and coffee and tea with snacks during the technical meetings for 20 people.

    A Joglo House
Being Indonesia’s prominent chain of venues and resorts, Plataran is never short of an amazing place for a wedding celebration. There are actually a number of wedding venues by Plataran in the city, but the one that stands out the most is Plataran Cilandak. Tucked away in a rather quiet area of busy South Jakarta, this venue offers an intimate atmosphere without leaving out the grandeur and glamour touches.

Nestled on two hectares of land adorned with large tropical trees, Plataran Cilandak provides a sense of retreat from the intrusion of Jakarta’s hustle and bustle. The land is dotted with rustic traditional Javanese wooden structures, oozing with the sense of heritage, privacy, and grounded elegance. Really, when it comes to a wedding at Plataran Cilandak, think intimate garden party with 600 of your closest friends and relatives.

As for the packages, Plataran Cilandak also excels compared to other venues. Their team of professional wedding planners and event organizers are ready to tailor a wedding celebration that meets the couple’s needs. The venue’s extensive list of facilities like sarnafil tents, tiffany chairs, romantic bamboo torches, a Joglo house, a Balinese pendopo, a Kudus family house, a parking area for 300 cars, and much more are all available. And did I mention that couples who celebrate their wedding party here will also get a complimentary one-night stay at the venue’s beautiful Villa Nismara?

    City Center
For those who are planning to host a wedding in the city center, the venue at the Bank Indonesia Heritage Building—or Gedung Heritage Bank Indonesia—is definitely the option to go with. Situated just a stone’s throw away from Jakarta Old Town Square, the historic Fatahillah Museum, and the iconic Kota Railway Station, this venue is overflowing with the romantic atmosphere of the bygone era.

The Bank Indonesia Heritage Building actually sits side by side with the Bank Indonesia Museum, which makes this venue even more perfect. Imagine a wedding that starts with an intimate ceremony in the grand entrance hall of the museum lined with marble, witnessed by the loved ones. Then a grand wedding reception follows in the inner courtyard of the Heritage Building, which sits right next door and is surrounded by the beautiful colonial building façade featuring romantic white columns. It will definitely be a wedding worth spending all the money in the world.

And speaking of money, this venue is actually not that expensive. However, since it is also a popular spot, the bride and groom-to-be might need to get onto the waiting list. The building management also has a long list of vendors and catering partners, but better hire a good wedding organizer to help find and arrange all the vendors. And the most important tip of all is, do not go overboard with the decorations because with all those pillars, this building already looks magnificent.
