Go a little bit outside of Jakarta and spend a day at the Scientia Square Park with family and friends...

A boy with his skateboard crossed in front of me. He slid down and went on a small path between the plants. A younger boy soon appeared running, trying to catch up with the bigger boy. That was the view that welcomed me when I arrived at the Scientia Square Park in Gading Serpong in Tangerang, one of Jakarta’s satellite cities that is accessible via the highway road in less than one hour. It wasn’t long until I found myself very busy enjoying almost every part of the park.

Scientia Square Park covers 10,000 square meters of land. This multi-purpose park is an open space with a green view and fresh air, and has become one of the dreamy escapes for the residents of Jakarta. For those who are looking for a children-friendly park in which to spend time with friends and family on the weekends, this is where you should go to, as the place is filled with a lot of fun activities for everyone in the family. It indeed shatters the idea that Jakarta people can only go to the mall for a fun family day out.

    Explore The Park
Scientia Square Park is perfect for those who want to go jogging, running or just walking outside of the park. The park management secures a route from Scientia Square Park to Summarecon Mall Serpong from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. every morning. Aside from that schedule you can still go jogging, running or walking inside the park on its jogging track.

The park also has a lawn and wooden benches. This side of the park is designed for family picnics – it is also comfortable for single travelers where they can relax and read a book or for couples and friends to have a light conversation. The lawn is named the Universe Amphitheatre as it serves as a space to host performances at the park. Moreover, the lawn is also popular on social media as a spot to see the sunset in Gading Serpong.

    Young And Old
Scientia Square Park is pretty educational for children as well. Next to the popular lawn there is a paddy field where the rice is harvested in every three months. These rice fields makes Scientia Square Park different from any other family park because not only can children go to play out under the sun, but they also learn the process of harvesting and can explore the paddy field. Another surprise that lies among the rice fields is a track for radio control cars. This part of the park is not just filled by radio control car lovers, but also visitors who want to watch the racing.

There is also a butterfly park where children can witness the butterfly metamorphosis that is rarely seen in a big city like Jakarta. If you are lucky you may see caterpillars, cocoons and butterflies all at the same time here. Next to the butterfly park is a small space that was turned into a rabbit enclosure where children can see the rabbits up close and feed them – they can also find koi fish swimming in the pond next to it.

On the other side of the park are some challenging activities like wall climbing and biking that are available to pump up your adrenaline. No wonder that this area is mostly filled with groups of teenagers who seem to have so much fun climbing the vertical wall using the provided equipment and under the watch of two officers to keep everyone safe. Meanwhile, younger active children can also play at the playground or skate around with rented rollerblades. The park is also perfect as a community hub or meeting point – that is why some local community groups often gather here on the weekends, such as the yoga and the street workout enthusiasts.

    One-Day Access
The entrance fee is only Rp. 25,000 on weekdays and Rp. 40,000 on the weekends for a one-day pass. The park has a list of entertainment options already, but you can opt to go outside of the park and explore the shopping center and restaurants around the area – and then go back into the park without having to pay another entrance fee. A little tip...make sure that you log on to its official website or check out its social media accounts to see their daily schedule of activities prior to your visit. And don’t forget that the park is going to celebrate New Year’s Eve with fireworks that you can watch from the Universe Amphitheatre.
