Heart of Sanur
Since they first opened their doors a couple of years ago, Maya Sanur has been giving a lively vibe to the quiet Sanur area with its chic and modern design. The hotel is strategically situated in the heart of Sanur where restaurants and cafes are within walking distance, yet Maya Sanur still offers the seclusion that has become the characteristic of Sanur, and boasts a view of the white sand beach and tranquil ocean.
Maya Sanur has 103 rooms in four different types – Deluxe Garden View, Deluxe Lagoon View, Deluxe Lagoon Access and Beach Front Pool Suites, all boasting a modern design with touches of wooden materials that give a warm ambiance to each room. I stayed at the Beach Front Pool Suites (104 square meters), which was so comfortable that it was easy for me to feel at home. There is a glass window behind the bed that faces a wall decorated by vines, while another glass window is set in front of the bed, facing the balcony. The Beach Front Pool Suites also have their own living room and plunge pool on the balcony that faces the tranquil ocean.
Although there are a lot of restaurants outside of the hotel, you don’t actually need to go out to find delectable food as Maya Sanur has a number of dining outlets. Located on the street side, Kuu presents Japanese dishes while Graze offers breakfast selections including sandwiches, soup, salads and more. The all-day dining Reef Restaurant serves a buffet breakfast as well as a la carte menu for lunch and dinner, while the Tree Bar is the perfect spot to unwind with alcoholic drinks and light bites. Both the Reef Restaurant and the Tree Bar are beachfront, so guests can indulge in their food and drinks while enjoying a view of the ocean.

The Other Side of Kuta
The opening of The ANVAYA Beach Resort – Bali reveals the other side of Kuta that feels more secluded, although it is actually located in the heart of Kuta where restaurants and cafes are within walking distance including the Discovery Shopping Mall Bali. “Anvaya” means connection in Sanskrit, and this new gem truly allows you to get connected with the surrounding environment as well as yourself or your loved ones because this hotel is wonderful either for “me time” or a family getaway.
The ANVAYA Beach Resort – Bali has 495 rooms and suites divided into several types – Deluxe, Premiere, Deluxe Suites, Premiere Suites, Anvaya Suites and Beachfront Private Suites. There is also one standing villa named The Anvaya Villa with two bedrooms. During my stay I spent the night in a Premiere room on the ground floor with direct access to the lagoon pool. For those who are looking for “me time” like me, a Premiere room on the ground floor is the perfect option – the room has a king-size bed and is set with floor-to-top glass doors that connect the room to the balcony, where I enjoyed my reading time and the lagoon pool that felt like a private pool for me. The Premiere rooms are also available on the upper floors with balconies overlooking the hotel’s manicured garden.
When it comes to facilities, The ANVAYA Beach Resort – Bali has them all, from the main swimming pool in the middle of the hotel complex to a spa named the Sakanti Spa, a gym, a kids club, as well as ballrooms and meeting rooms. Every part of the hotel is also unique, as the property embraces designs from three different eras – Bali Aga, Hindu Bali and Modern Bali. The hotel also has two restaurants that not only offer delectable dishes but also let guests indulge in the lively vibe of Kuta – the Kunyit restaurant is perched at the front of the hotel along the main street, while the Sands restaurant stands at the other side of the hotel that boasts the view of the ocean. The hotel provides daybeds on the beach as well and trust me, this side of Kuta is much calmer and so relaxing for sunbathing on the beach.

Snoozing in Jimbaran
Another beachfront hotel that just opened in 2016 is the Jimbaran Bay Beach Resort & Spa. Standing in Kedonganan Village, this hotel boasts a remarkable view of the tranquil ocean and is surrounded by the fishermen going about their daily lives, which makes this area unique on its own, especially with the Kedonganan traditional fish market nearby.
The Jimbaran Bay Beach Resort & Spa provides 121 rooms in 11 different types, all embracing the beautiful blend of traditional Balinese and modern design. I stayed in the Janger Room, which was very spacious (84 square meters) with a queen-size bed and its own pantry and dining room. The bathroom is also spacious with beautiful white marble. Of course my favorite part of the room was the balcony, where I enjoyed my afternoon coffee with the view of the ocean.
Though compact in size, this hotel has a complete facilities. On the ground floor, after the lobby area, the all-day dining HIU Restaurant Wine & Lounge is ready to serve guests delectable international cuisine. Next to the restaurant lies the hotel’s swimming pool with its own bar and a number of daybeds, making it the perfect spot to unwind under the sun. The Lotus Spa and a gym is also available on the ground floor.
For an ultimate sunset session in Jimbaran, all you have to do is go to the fifth floor (rooftop level) where the Baruna Sky Lounge Restaurant & Bar is nestled. Here you can enjoy the view of Jimbaran’s skyline while sipping some delicious cocktails.
