Nyegara Gunung is the Balinese term for the ocean and the mountain, the two parts of the world that are different yet support each other completely. In Bali, everything is believed to coexist with a synergy or balance. The Balinese people believe in “Rwa Bhinneda” which means difference creates a perfect harmony. Like good and evil, night and day, sekala and niskala (the real world and the spiritual world), and buana agung and buana alit (macrocosm and microcosm), the ocean and the mountain balance each other with all their differences.

Commemorating Earth Day that falls on April 22, this photo series reveals the mightiness of the mountains and the calmness of the ocean to remind us all that whatever is done badly on the mountain will affect those in the ocean. For instance, trash thrown carelessly on the mountain will eventually end up in the sea.

Think about it... and be enlightened.
