The Runaway Bride
Take a break from all that stressful wedding planning, let your hair down with your best girlfriends at Prana Spa and indulge in their pre-nuptial hen’s parties...
In what should be a once-in-alifetime occurrence (hopefully), if you’re about to get married, celebrate in style with your best gal pals, not just on the big day but in the days leading up to it. In Australia – and other Western nations to a lesser extent – a prewedding get-together like a “bridal shower” or “Hen’s Party” is almost a cultural rite of passage. If you’re among the countless couple’s getting hitched in Bali – one of the world’s favourite wedding destinations – Prana Spa in Seminyak offers great value, refined and indulgent Hen’s Party options (with not a stripper in sight).
Prana Spa is certainly big enough. Being one of Bali’s largest spas and a part of neighboring The Villas Bali, Prana Spa’s palatial property incorporates 15 singles and six double treatment rooms, a Private Suite, a dedicated Thai Massage, a Vichy Shower, steam and sauna rooms, a yoga studio, outdoor plunge pools and an in-house restaurant. Specializing for near-on two decades in group celebrations, Prana Spa can accommodate up to 25 ladies in one go, indulging them in different treatments simultaneously – even better, bookings over 12 people receive a complimentary bottle of Möet & Chandon Champagne.
Prana Spa actually means “breathe, life and vitality of spirit” in Sanskrit, yet it is certainly fun enough for a bride-to-be as it offers an exotic fantasy-style escape from the stresses of orchestrating a wedding. This award-winning spa’s architecture is inspired by 16th century Rajasthani moguls blended with Moroccan rustic flourishes – from Indian palace battlement exteriors to sumptuous Middle-eastern interiors – and presents a private, luxurious oasis where girls can let their hair down, catch-up and prepare to look and feel their ultimate best.
A Hen’s Party
For the blushing bride and her bridal posse, Prana Spa’s six “Hen’s Parties Packages” offer a selection of their most popular treatments geared to groups of all sizes, combining relaxation, rejuvenation and beautifying. One of their stand-outs is “Pampering of Prana” (Rp.1,300,000++), a three-hour holistic all-rounder spa package. This commences with a 15-minute session at the outdoor hot and cold plunge pools in a Moroccan-style inner courtyard, stimulating the circulation system and detoxifying the body.
A therapist then leads the ladies down a long labyrinth-like corridor ornately decorated with gold leaf detail and rich hand-woven carpets to one of the Arabian-themed treatment rooms, dimly-lit with glass lanterns and adorned with hand-stenciled wall motifs. A sea salt foot scrub is followed by a signature body massage combining ultra-soothing Balinese and deep-tissue techniques with lashings of aromatic oils, then a top-notch Pevonia Facial for exceptional deep but gentle cleansing, steam exfoliation, masque and super-moisturizing – for a totally cleansed, dewy moist and firmed-up face – rounded off with a hair créme bath, incorporating a reenergizing scalp massage.
Additional pampering and party add-ons are available upon request, such as food and beverage options served between and after treatments anywhere on the premises, from the plunge pool to Prana Restaurant – the latter is perfect for groups with a large semi-open dining space spilling out to a fountain-edged courtyard. They serve almost everything from fruit or cheese platters, Tapas and bottles of bubbly drinks, to large luncheons, afternoon teas and cocktails. Ladies can also select any individual or combination of treatments from Prana’s full spa menu that accommodates everyone’s wish-lists, be it body scrubs, facials, cellulite-busting wraps and soothing massages, group manicure-pedicures or spray tans in the salon – and yoga sessions with a private instructor.
Along with her mother or best friends, the bride-to-be could also be shamelessly spoilt at Prana’s legendary Private Suite, a one-off opulent spa chamber that whisks mortals away to an ancient world of Arabian Nights, Nile Kings and Queens and mystical Persian fables. The dedicated menu offers four lavish multi-hour treatment packages designed exclusively for two, incorporating the finest ingredients – expect 24-carat gold infused massage oils and pearl powder facials – and a bottle of fine wine and canapés decadently enjoyed in the clam-shaped bath tub. Alternatively, treatments can be cherry-picked individually off the special a la carte spa menu, incorporating nibbles and drinks selections.
Prana Spa also offers exclusive “Hen’s Party Getaway” which is such an excellent value. The three-night accommodation is available for two guests in a two-bedroom private pool villa from US$570++/person or three guests in a three-bedroom private pool villa from US$600++/ person at Prana’s adjoining The Villas Bali. This offer is also inclusive of daily breakfasts, in-villa barbecue dinner, take-home luxe goodies and several villa services. Spa inclusions feature afternoon tea, “Pampering of Prana” treatment, exclusive plunge pool use and one-off treatment at Chill Reflexology, a boutique-sized chic sister property nearby which focuses on reflexology and acupressure.
Alternatively, rent a villa for the half-day and host a barbecue gathering and later, indulge in sunset cocktails at one of Seminyak’s iconic beach clubs which is just a short taxi ride away. Watch those pre-wedding jitters and dark eye shadows simply fade away before the upcoming nuptials!
