By the Cliff
Pamper yourself with a relaxing massage treatment while listening to the sound of the waves and enjoying the view of the tranquil Ocean only at Karma Spa...
Amidst the serene surrounding of Karma Kandara, Karma Spa stands on top of a cliff overlooking the tranquil Indian Ocean. The alfresco spa lobby sends a peaceful vibe and the sound of the waves from down below serenaded my entrance to Karma Spa. I could feel my mind is fully relaxed already as I stood at the edge of the balcony, treasuring the view of the ocean and enjoying the feel of the wind. I could have stood there all day, but one of the spa therapists greeted me and took me back to reality.
She asked me to sit on the sofa and served me a welcome drink and cold towel to freshen up. As I was sipping my drink, she introduced me to some of the treatments at Karma Spa. Focusing on holistic beauty and wellness, Karma Spa offers a number of Asian-inspired treatments, not only for relaxation but also rejuvenation. The therapist suggested I experience the Karma Rhythm Massage, one of the signature treatments of the spa, a recommendation that I took delightfully without a second thought.
Go With the Rhythm
The treatment room at Karma Spa is certainly different from other spas on the island. Standing on a cliff-edge, the room has a sleek design dominated by white. The big window on one of the walls – which I suggest you keep open – boasts a view of the tranquil ocean, making the room look even more lavish. As if that’s not enough, the treatment room has an open-air private bathroom designed with stone walls with a view of the Indian Ocean.
My Karma Rhythm Massage began with the relaxing Warm Compress around my feet. Then, after I lied on the bed facing down, I heard a sound of “Ting!” My therapist then asked me to take a deep breath a couple of times to relax before she worked her magic. Karma Rhythm Massage is a special treatment indeed as it is born from a collaboration between the spa team and Joko Tri Li, one of the island’s famous healer who is an expert in traditional Chinese medicine. This treatment also incorporates a unique technique designed by Jari Menari, one of Bali’s leading spa consulting and massage centers.
Aiming to counter today’s digital lifestyle, Karma Rhythm Massage involves on-point pressure techniques from head to toe with a focus on neck, shoulders and lower back, making the treatment perfect for those who spend a lot of time working in front of a computer. The massage is also performed with slow and mindful movements which effectively put me in a deep sleep. And not only is the massage good to soothe sore muscles, it also boosts blood circulation. It was an excellent choice of treatment for a writer like me, indeed! Karma Rhythm Massage is made perfect with the use of indigenous oil massage, a concoction of coconut oil, pure lavender essential oil, black pepper and marjoram.
The 90-minute treatment ended when I heard another sound of “Ting!” When I opened my eyes, I felt rejuvenated and reenergized at the same time. And of course, waking up to the view of the Indian Ocean in the treatment room made my pampering time at Karma Spa incomparable. But there was no need to rush – I just couldn’t check out of the spa without trying their Himalayan salt-infused pool and Bali’s first ever Far Infrared Sauna, both of which overlook the Indian Ocean and are available for all spa guests for free.
Karma Spa offers their Fresh Air Package that is especially designed for a wellness getaway. Available at US$ 2,174++/two persons for three nights, this package allows guests to unwind in a private pool villa that boasts a view of Indian Ocean. It also includes a lot of privileges, such as healthy breakfast and dinner, detox cleansing juice, 45-minute infra-red sauna and Himalayan pool, 75-minute Karma Rhythm Massage, 90-minute holistic facial and more.
