David Soong, creator of SweetEscape, shares about his passion in photography...

What was once a hobby is now a promising business. David Soong used to capture important moments of his friends on the weekends. Now, not only has he become a professional photographer, but he also has created an innovative photography service named SweetEscape that focuses on holiday photography. David Soong (DS) talks to Bali & Beyond (BB) about his passion and business...

BB: When was the first time you are interested in the photography industry?
DS: I’ve always been interested in photography since I was young. I picked up my first camera in school and ever since then I don’t think I’ve ever stopped loving the photography world.

BB: Do you still remember your first professional photography experience? How was it?
DS: It’s been a while. It was a wedding photoshoot for my friend in Seattle. It happened so fast, the photoshoot was done within half a day. But it was truly memorable for me, not just because Puget Sound was gorgeous but also because it was so quick and effective. I remember I refused receiving any payment because I had so much fun with the shooting.

BB: You never thought of becoming a professional photographer before. So what changed your mind?
DS: I have three passions in life; food, travel and photography. I think the best areas to work in are the areas you are passionate about.

BB: Providing professional photography for tourists and travelers is a breakthrough in the photography industry. What inspired you to create SweetEscape?
DS: I believe that vacations are chances to create new memories that should be cherished for a long time. I launched SweetEscape so that vacation-goers can come home with not only remarkable memories but also pictures. SweetEscape offers the best souvenirs to take home at the end of a vacation. Customers will feel like they have a personal photographer to capture their most intimate, raw and undedited memories. It’s simple and hassle-free, yet the photos are something to treasure for years to come.

BB: How many photographers in how many countries does SweetEscape now have?
DS: SweetEscape has a team of over 400 photographers in more than 300 cities around the world. We are available in Bali, Amsterdam, New York, Kyoto, Melbourne, Hong Kong, London and Paris to name a few.

BB: What are the characters that you look for in a photographer for SweetEscape?
DS: We look for photographers who have the right skills and the right personality. We want our photographers to not only be able to take good pictures, but also be a good friend to the vacation-goers and make them feel at ease. Our photographers need to be comfortable enough to show the clients the best coffee shop in town!

BB: What can the clients expect from a photoshoot with SweetEscape?
DS: 40 candidly captured photographs that are already edited and ready to download on an online gallery. In short, they will have tangible memories of their beautiful moments during their holiday that they can treasure for a lifetime.

BB: What are your next projects?
DS: We are always improving our services and working towards giving our clients a better experience. SweetEscape has always been tech-enabled from the very start and now the SweetEscape app is available on iOS and Android. So, the next time you want to book a session, try doing it from your mobile app.
