    The Weekend is Here

Edna Tarigan’s choice for perfect Sunday Brunches in Jakarta...

Weekends mean I can wake up late and have my breakfast and lunch at the same time, or as many people call it, “brunch”. For a more enjoyable weekend, I prefer to have my brunch menu different from what I usually have on the weekdays, to get that sense of having a short holiday in the capital city after working the whole week. So, last month I spent my weekends searching for wonderful Sunday Brunches in and around Jakarta, and these are my favorites...

    The Weekend is Here

    Cyclists’s Brunch

Nestled on the northern side of Kemang, the 7 Speed Coffee shop is a gem that first gained popularity as a weekend brunch destination for cyclists in South Jakarta. As time went by, the coffee shop became everyone’s favorite meeting point due to the hype in social media.

The coffee shop is open every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., but during the weekends it operates from 7 a.m. The must-try dishes for brunch are the Tampa Cheese Burger and Popeye’s Breakie, both are so deliciously creamy with a touch of classic mimolette cheese and egg. The Tampa Cheese Burger is named after the most popular skate park in Tampa, Florida, United States, the chef’s very own favorite place as a skater. While the Popeye’s Breakie, as you might already guess, has spinach as the main ingredient. Together with a sunny side up egg and mimolette cheese, the spinach is beautifully served on top of sourdough bread.

To complete my brunch experience, I had the White Fuel coffee to accompany my meal – this is the most recommended drink here. Unlike the other ice coffee with milk and palm sugar that is currently famous in the coffee shop, White Fuel has a perfect balance of milk and espresso, presenting a strong sensation of milky coffee that has become a distinctive character of 7 Speed Coffee.

    Around The World

Located in the heart of Jakarta, Pullman Jakarta Indonesia Hotel offers a variety of dishes from many regions in Indonesia and the world at its Sana Sini restaurant. “Sana sini” is the Indonesian for “here and there”, and the restaurant reflects the name by offering an extensive menu that consists of Western, Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian cuisine, presented buffet style. One of the must-try foods is the fresh seafood and oysters from Sumbawa in West Nusa Tenggara. A culinary experience here is made perfect with unlimited non-alcohol drinks, which are included in the package.

The Sunday Brunch at Sana Sini is available from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., making it the perfect destination after joining the carefree day along Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Thamrin. For this year’s holiday season, it is probably best if you spend a night – or more – at the hotel as Pullman Jakarta Indonesia Hotel offers a “Family Playcation” package that starts from Rp. 2,300,000++/room/ night, including breakfast for two adults and two children up to 12 years old. Come stay during the weekend, so you can enjoy the San Fransisco-themed decoration and a cable car replica in original size covered by ginger bread, especially crafted by the hotel’s culinary team, and indulge in a Sunday Brunch with your family.

Two hours of driving from Jakarta took me to Hai Wang Chinese Delight in Resinda Hotel Karawang. I didn’t mind the drive as I was looking for an all-you-can-eat Dim Sum experience and this is the place to be for a Sunday Brunch with scrumptious traditional Chinese delicacies.

Situated five minutes away from the busy Karawang Industrial Estates, this hotel is already popular among the expatriates around the region. The Hai Wang is also renowned as the best place to indulge in more than 20 Cantonese-inspired dishes in Karawang. The delectable dim sum choices, such as dumplings, shaomai, a variety of pao and soups, are served in the sophisticated-style interior with an opulent chandelier on the ceiling that gives a warm lighting. This restaurant boasts a superb collaboration between the distinctive touch of Resinda Hotel and the management of Padma Hotels.

A little tip prior to indulging in Dim Sum Sunday Brunch here; don’t forget to reserve a place. The restaurant is almost always full house on a Sunday afternoon as it is one of the favorite places for Karawang residents to spend their weekends with families and friends. The all-you-can-eat Dim Sum Brunch is available on Sundays from 7.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aside from the Sunday Brunch at Hai Wang Chinese Delight, the hotel also offers Japanese brunch on Saturdays from 11.30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Tenkai Japanese Restaurant.
