A Valley Hideaway
Stay at Padma Hotel Bandung, a relaxed city hotel with a stunning view that is just a short drive away from the heart of Bandung...
Bandung, the capital city of West Java, is only a two-hour drive away from Jakarta. It is Indonesia’s third most populous city and it is located 768 meters above sea level. The city is nestled on a highland with fresh air that, during the colonization era, the Dutch called “Parijs van Java” or The Paris of Java due to its similar weather with southern France.
Bandung has come a long way after it was first developed by the Dutch as a tea plantation settlement in the early 18th century. In this modern era, Bandung has become a resort city where numerous luxurious hotels, restaurants and cafes stand. Surrounded by volcanic mountains, Bandung is a popular destination among the locals because of its factory outlets, delicious street food and natural tourist attractions that are completely different from Bali.
The city is so alive, yet it doesn’t mean that you can’t find a secluded place to stay for a quiet getaway. Nestled up on the mountains, Padma Hotel Bandung is a serene haven surrounded by lush greenery that is still within close proximity to the city center.
The unassuming entrance to Padma Hotel Bandung is jaw-dropping as it leads to an opening with floor-to-top windows and high ceilings overlooking the lush valley that lies right behind the hotel. Sitting on one of the sofas and just breathing in the fresh air while sipping the welcome drink is probably the best option once you arrive at the hotel. But better yet, head all the way to the back and check out The Restaurant, a stunning “rooftop” dining place with a 180-degree unobstructed view of the hills.
While the view is to die for, the friendly hospitality service is also top-notch, just like other brands of Padma Hotels. I personally think that Padma Hotels has the best standard in services compared to other local hotel chains, and it shows in how the staff at Padma Hotel Bandung are all smiling and kind – a note I kept in mind as I descended to level eight below the lobby where the rooms are located.
The hotel has 124 rooms in total with a new wing available just below The Restaurant. All of the rooms have modern amenities, but my choice is definitely the crown jewel – the Premiere Suite, a modern spacious room with glass windows overlooking the valley. Waking up to a view of the lush greenery is definitely not a bad idea!
Taking advantage of the Ciumbuleuit Valley, Padma Hotel Bandung boasts beautiful natural scenery like no other, throughout the hotel, from the heated infinity pool to the cliff-top breakfast venue. The combination of the breathtaking view and luxurious design makes this Instagram-worthy hotel a popular destination during the weekends, so it is advisable to reserve your room if you’re going to stay here.
Fun and Food
Padma Hotel Bandung also offers plenty of activities for the children and the young at heart. New facilities just opened recently, such as the Tree House, Mini Golf, Mini Zoo, and a fishing area. Your children will have the time of their lives trying the hotel’s flying fox or joining one of the indoor activities like painting, making batik and learning to play traditional musical instruments.
But before you and your children do any of those activities, make sure that you don’t miss the breakfast at The Restaurant. In fact, I would recommend you get up early and head straight to The Restaurant to treasure the view of the rolling mist in the distant hill showered by golden rays that makes everything feel magical to say the least.
Choose the table at the edge of the terrace as it is the best place to enjoy the scenery while relishing an array of breakfast choices, which range from classic western dishes to local snacks that the kitchen team of Padma Hotel Bandung creates with authenticity worth the praise. Each of the local dishes tastes the same as on the streets of Bandung, making The Restaurant a very convenient place to sample local food.
Don’t forget to relish the free traditional afternoon tea that is available every day from 3.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Offering traditional snacks from local chips to deep-fried tofu, the afternoon tea is such a perfect nibble to accompany you in the comfortable cool weather. To make it more authentically Bandung, the afternoon tea is served by a woman wearing a kebaya outfit. Padma Hotel Bandung sure serves legit traditional cuisine.
Bandung is a city where most of Jakarta residents go to for a weekend getaway, so don’t be surprised if you’re stuck in traffic. However, the city is generally pleasant during the weekdays, and that’s probably the best time to visit.
While you’re in town, you can visit Tangkuban Perahu or Kawah Putih if you are into exploring volcanoes. You can also wake up early in the morning and head to Tebing Keraton at Ir. H. Juanda Forest Park, which is located five minutes away from Curug Dago, and enjoy the stunning sunrise from the top of the mountain.
How to get to Bandung? There are plenty of airlines flying directly from Bali to Bandung. The flight is relatively short, and that’s why Bandung is a great option if you want to experience something entirely different from Bali, be it the culture or the ambiance, with equally amazing hospitality service that Bali is well known for.
