Finding a Hidden Gem of Karangasem
Earlier this month, we explored East Bali to discover some of its jewels – see our stories visiting Taman Soekasada Ujung Water Palace, Tirta Gangga and Lempuyang Temple. Just before we headed back to Denpasar, we decided to make a short stop in an area between Amed and Candi Dasa.
We initially wanted to spend a sunset moment at the Virgin White Sand Beach, yet when we saw the signage of “Bukit Asah” on the way to the beach, we made a quick turn as we were intrigued to explore the hidden gem.
Located in the Bugbug village, Karangasem, Bukit Asah is a camping ground that is open for everyone. It offers a one-of-a-kind experience where natural lovers can spend a night in the middle of pristine nature. The tents stand on the hillside, boasting the dramatic view of the ocean – imagine waking up to a spectacular view of the sunrise! The best part is everything is made ready for you, so all you need to do is relax and cherish the experience.
However, we didn’t plan to stay overnight. Even so, we could still relish a quick picnic at a food joint within the camping area. Sitting on the grass, we enjoyed a magnificent view of the ocean that lies in front of us, accompanied by cups of hot coffee and instant noodles in our hands. It was indeed a simple afternoon to end a tour around the East Bali remarkably.
