New Flavors for Lunch
If you’re craving for some flavorful Thai-inspired cuisine in the middle of the day, all you have to do is head to Som Chai. Located in Kerobokan area, the sister’s restaurant of the popular Mama San, Sarong, Hujan Locale and Tiger Palm is now serving lunch from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Now, get your family and friends ready because each dish here comes with generous portion that is wonderful for sharing.
You can start your culinary journey with a choice of delightful appetizer. One of our favorites is the Golden Chicken Money Bags, a fried dumpling dish that is crunchy on the outside. Filled with chicken and vegetables, this dish is paired with sweet chili sauce that enhances the flavor. Another choice for starter is the Candied Shrimp Salad. Served with young ginger galangal, green mango, pineapple and shallots, this salad has a refreshing flavor which is great on a hot sunny day. For vegetarians, you can opt for The Vegetarian Curry Puffs which tastes amazingly with sweet potato carrot and madras curry powder.
Moving on to the main course, Som Chai offers a variety of dishes, ranging from soups, curries, noodles and more. One of the highlights is the Pad Ki Mao, a beef dish that is so tasty with chili, lime leaf, apple, eggplants, baby corn and Thai basil. The Gaeng Sohm is also a must-try – consists of Barramundi, pineapple palm heart and tamarind, this soup dish is freshly made with flavors that will burst in your mouth. Don’t forget to pair these main courses with some rice for a real Asian-style dining experience.
Som Chai also presents selections of remarkable drinks to complete your meal – choices include refreshing ice flavored tea, like the Blueberry Tea with ice cubes made of the same drink. And for a splendid end to your culinary journey, the restaurant offers a number of sweet delights. From mango sticky rice to mixed fritters, they have them all, but we personally think that the Salted Caramel Ice Cream is the star of the dessert, served with glazed banana, caramelized popcorn, butterscotch and merengue – each component works together, creating a smooth and crunchy texture with a perfect balance of sweetness.
