Have a quality nap in the middle of the rice fields with this special session at Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan...

Catching up with deadlines, going from one meeting to another and having so many tasks to accomplish in so little time – this is probably our everyday struggle which leads to stress and may cause difficulties in sleeping. Aiming to help guests reach a quality relaxation, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan offers a distinctive program like no other, named the Sacred Nap. Conducted by the resort’s wellness mentor Ibu Fera, the Sacred Nap is a must-try program, especially for those who don’t get enough sleep or, at least, rest.

    Swinging Hammock
It was a beautiful day when I visited the resort to enjoy this experience. It has been a long week, so the idea of having a quality sleep in the middle of a rice field is truly tempting me. As I walked towards the bamboo-structure Darma Shanti Bale where this program took place, I could feel the peaceful atmosphere already. I knew an interesting journey was awaiting me.

Ibu Fera, the Wellness Mentor, welcomed me and a number of other participants warmly. “Please come in,” she invited us to enter the open-air function as we took off our shoes. A number of hammocks made of 100 percent silk, originally used for AntiGravity Yoga, were already hanging. Ibu Fera began the class with an introduction where she not only explained about the aim of Sacred Nap, but also showed us how to get on one of the hammocks and sleep in it. “Now, please take your place,” she finally said.

I immediately took the hammock on the left side of the pavilion, trying to find a spot that is closer to the rice fields. Once I tucked myself in the hammock, I lied down and made myself comfortable. Ibu Fera checked all the participants, making sure that we lay in the right position and feel cozy in the hammock. As she did so, she sprinkled each one of us with some drops of Lavender essential oil, swung our hammock from side to side gently, and guided us to reach relaxation.

Her soothing voice combined with cool breeze and birds chirping instantly put me in a snooze mode. Faintly, I could hear her chanting a singing bowl. Ibu Fera was only beginning to tell the life story of Buddha like a bedtime story when I fell into a deep sleep – and trust me, for a light sleeper like me, falling into sleep has never been this easy.

    Meet the Mentor
“Slowly, open your eyes,” I could hear Ibu Fera’s soft voice waking me up. As I opened my eyes, she was already standing behind my hammock, handing me a cold towel to freshen up. It took me a couple of seconds to return to the real world from a deep sleep. After feeling refreshed, I got myself out of the hammock and joined the other participants to sit around Ibu Fera at a corner of Darma Shanti Bale, trying to get to know the resort’s Wellness Mentor.

Ibu Fera was once a Buddhist nun. From 2006 to 2013, she was ordained in Yangon in Myanmar as there was no Buddhist nun community in Indonesia at that time. Her given name was “Agga Savika” which means the first female student who came from Indonesia. However, in 2013, she decided to go back home to take care of her family. It wasn’t until 2014 that her journey as the wellness mentor at the Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan began.

The Sacred Nap was born from her own ideas, and that’s why this resort is the one and only in Bali to offer this unique program. But what inspired her in the first place? “When I was rocking my newborn baby to sleep, I realized that most of us have forgotten how great and nurturing it was to be rocked to sleep and have someone to read a bedtime story or sing a lullaby,” she explained. “I then incorporated various chanting mantras, which I learned during my days as a Buddhist nun, into this program, as well as the soothing sound of a singing bowl to create sacred energy.”

I couldn’t help but ask about the meaning behind this session. “This program aims to take you back to the beautiful experience and feeling you had when you were a baby,” Ibu Fera explained. “Combined with powerful healing of sacred chanting and singing bowl music, we try to help engage your inner self with the surrounding nature. A deep relaxation is amazing to help boost immunity and maintain blood pressure.”

Aside from the Sacred Nap, Ibu Fera also conducts selections of wellness programs at the resort, such as Life Talk Series, Relaxation Meditation, Mala Meditation, Loving & Kindness Meditation, and more. Surrounded by lush greens in the middle of serene Ubud, a session with Ibu Fera at Four Seasons Bali Resort at Sayan is definitely what one needs to restore balance between the mind, body and soul.
