The Star of Uluwatu
Nestled in Uluwatu, Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa makes a lavish addition to the Bukit area with a remarkable view of the stunning coastline...
It has only been a few months since Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa opened its doors, yet the newest property from the Marriott International, Inc. has become the talk of the island. Standing on the popular peninsula in Uluwatu, an area that is renowned for its surf breaks and white sandy beaches, the hotel makes the perfect sanctuary for everyone who is longing to explore Uluwatu or simply unwind in a quiet spot away from the crowd, with a view of the stunning Indian Ocean afar and topnotch hospitality.
Located on Jalan Pantai Balangan, the hotel is also pretty easy to reach. After passing the Garuda Wisnu Kencana on the left, turn right at the intersection where a Nirmala outlet stands on the right side of the road. Follow the road – the Renaissance hotel is nestled on the left side of the road.
Home Suite Home
Designed with monochrome colors, the lobby area is pretty artsy with extravagant lighting installation hanging on the ceiling, and a number of timber crafts displayed in the sitting area. As a friendly staff member helped me to process my check-in, I was drawn to the R Bar which is located adjacent to the lobby. Set with numerous comfortable daybeds, the alfresco R Bar boasts a magnificent view of the resort’s infinity pool with the tranquil ocean in the background. I could’ve stood there all day to admire the scenery and enjoying the breeze, but the hotel staff took me back to reality when she told me that my room was ready. It was time to continue this relaxing moment in the midst of my room.
Renaissance provides 207 designer rooms in 11 different types, from Deluxe rooms to Suites, including Executive Suite, Loft Suite and Deluxe Family. Each room is made complete with a private balcony where guests can unwind with a view of the ocean or lush greens. I stayed in a Junior Suite, and I must say that it didn’t take me long to make myself feel at home. Just like the rest of the rooms, the Junior Suite is designed with mood lighting which makes the room feels so homey. The bathroom is spacious with a rain-shower and a lavish bathtub next to a glass window, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing bath with a sky view.
The Junior Suite is made complete with a comfortable king-size bed, a balcony separated by glass doors, and a cozy sofa that I immediately turned into a reading nook. But my favorite feature in this room was the kitchen island. Standing between the bedroom and the bathroom area, the kitchen island is equipped with an espresso machine and a sink. Trust me, this area is not only splendid to indulge in a meal, but it also makes a wonderful space to catch up with work, accompanied by a favorite program on the TV.
And did I mention that the Junior Suite has not just one, but two televisions? Aside from the one in front of the kitchen island, there is another TV in the bedroom area. The room is also equipped with a Bluetooth sound system. With complete facilities like this, I almost couldn’t find any excuse to leave the room.
Dine and Play
As much as I wanted to spend my getaway by staying in the Junior Suite, the swimming pool – which was partly viewed from my balcony – looked so inviting. After changing into my swimsuit, I went down to the sun-kissed pool where a number of sun loungers and sunbeds were lining up by the poolside. I opted to lie on one of the loungers, but before I made myself comfortable, my eyes spotted another yet excellent spot to lie under the sun – the floaties! A number of colorful floaties were floating by the edge of the pool. Without thinking twice, I dipped myself into the refreshing water, took one of the floaties, and just snoozed on the pool.
Boasting a view of the peninsula, the infi nity pool is pretty big – so even if there were a number of guests swimming at the same time, I could still enjoy my time in the water as if the pool was all mine. And when the sun was going down on the horizon, a glass of refreshing drink from the pool bar surely became the best company. I mean, lounging on the sunbed with a view of the tranquil pool and a glass of drink in one hand – this is the ultimate relaxation indeed.
The resort also serves high-quality culinary at its bars and restaurants. R Bar makes a wonderful space to unwind with high tea, local brew or signature cocktails during sunset. Meanwhile, Clay Craft boosted my morning mood with selections of delicious delights, from Uluwatu Burger, Chinese seafood, egg benedict, pastries, and more. They also highlight healthy drinks – nothing can beat delicious smoothies and fresh coconut water to start the day, right?
Clay Craft is even more interesting with a Balinese pottery studio that becomes the center point of the restaurant. Here at the studio, guests can learn all about ceramic-making with a Clay artist. And for the best of the stay experience, the resort also has a spa for a complete “me” time, a fitness center to keep up with health routine, and Double Ikat restaurant that serves Indonesian cuisine. Last but not least, Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa provides a wedding chapel that makes a remarkable spot to tie the knot.
