Colors of Bali
Rich with color, music and eager young performers, the Bali Arts Festival 2018 is a wonderful showcase of Balinese creativity and culture. Having attended the festival for the last five years, I can confidently say that it’s always entertaining, fun, and full of energy and professional dedication by all the performers.
This month-long festival is the highlight of the year for many of the communities across Bali and East Indonesia. It features dancing, music, and creative arts from every banjar (village) across Bali. The Grand Parade is the introduction of this magnificent event, featuring performers from Bali and across the archipelago. This year it had even included groups from China and Japan.
For many artists, dancers and show performers, the day starts early; preparing costumes and delicately applying make-up. Unfortunately this year however, the parade was over an hour late due to President Jokowi’s itinerary. However this didn’t seem to worry anyone. Smiles were still shared, and patience was plenty as we all waited for the President to arrive. This was alright, as these things happen.
For photographers, this fantastic festival and the parade are not to be missed. Smiles ring with color, energy, action, and old fashioned fun. Even the police and security folks join in the spirit of the parade keeping a friendly but firm hand on proceedings.
